Dr. Rutner received his undergraduate degree from Yeshiva University in 1992. After that, he spent two years at Columbia University performing molecular biology research. In 1994 he began UMDNJ Dental School graduating in 1998 with the highest honors, O.K.U. He began his Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery training at UMDNJ in 1998, which also entailed the completion of medical school and the receipt of an MD in 2001. Since then his kids affectionately have been known to call him doctor, doctor. He then went on to complete his training at UMDNJ as chief resident in oral & maxillofacial surgery in 2004. Lastly in 2006 he received his board certification by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons.

Dr. Rutner joined Dr. DeMaio's practice in July of 2004 and in January of 2008 became a partner with Dr. DeMaio to form DeMaio-Rutner Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, LLC. Dr. Rutner has helped to expand the scope of the practice to include treatment of pediatric adult patients, Orthognathic surgery, Craniofacial Surgery(cleft lip, palate and alveolus), TMJ surgery, complex jaw bone grafting and reconstruction, complex dental implant placement, wisdom tooth removal, and lastly facial cosmetic surgery. Utilizing his medical degree and training with well known plastic surgeons, Dr. Rutner can also perform in-office facial cosmetic surgery including botox and restylane/juvaderm injections, chemical peels, facial/chin liposuction, scar revisions, facial and chin implants, facial mole removal, and blepharoplasty (eyelid cosmetic surgery).

Dr. Rutner is on the medical staff at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, NJ, Overlook Hospital, Summit, NJ, and Rahway - RWJ University Hospital where he is an active attending in the dental resident's oral surgery training, performs surgery in their operating rooms and takes emergency call for oral and maxillofacial trauma. He is also an active member of the renowed Craniofacial Center at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He participates with a full team of surgeons, pediatricians, geneticists and social workers to deliver comprehensive care to patients with craniofacial deformities. Combining his training and cleft lip and palate mission to Columbia, South America, Dr. Rutner has been an acitve surgeon in this center treating patients from all over the tristate area with facial defromities.
Dr. Rutner enjoys spending time with his wife, Juliet, and their five children. In his little free time he also enjoys skiing, tennis, camping, fishing, and traveling. Dr. Rutner has also been selected as a Top Dentist in New Jersey Monthly Magazine, 2009, 2010, and 2011.
